There are tons of little mom and pop stores that I love to go to but that's another list.
1. 99 Ranch Market, 250 Skyline Plaza, Daly City
The cleanest meat and fish counters of all the Asian supermarkets. They also have the fish fryers and imho the best one. They have a good produce section and also a wide variety of Asian snacks from different countries.
2. Kukje Market, 2350 Junipero Serra Boulevard, Daly City
Another great meat counter, especially for the pre-marinated bulgogi. They have sushi-grade fish, too. My kids prefer Korean seaweed and they have a wide selection here. It's hard to get out of the kimchee and appetizer sections without filling up your cart. And the spicy chicken wings in the restaurant are really yummy.
3. Manila Oriental Market (MOM), 4175 Mission Street, SF
I frequent this one because it's the closest Asian market to my house. I occasionally buy meats here but I always check that they were packaged on that day or the day before. My favorite jasmine rice brand is here, but it's in the back with the sticky rice, not with the rest of the rice in the front of the store. They also sell broken rice of very good quality. Their produce section is great and clean; I really like the fruit section, too.
Note: I do not like the MOM in Daly City. It's crazy busy in there and there's a weird smell that I just can't stand.
4. Nijiya Market, 1737 Post Street (at Webster)
I love this little Japanese market. I can browse the aisles for hours, especially the junk food aisle. Best supermarket to get sushi-grade fish.
5. Parkside Farmers Market, 555 Taraval (at 16th Avenue)
Terrific selection of Middle Eastern goods, especially cheeses, yogurts, preserved fruits, and breads.
6. Vik's Chaat Corner, 2390 4th Street
Limited but very good selection of Indian goods. I suppose I could go to Bombay Bazaar on Valencia but I get dizzy in there.
